Gold Dust Lounge Grand Opening

Saturday Feb 2, 2013 (1–4pm)

Gold Dust Lounge

165 Jefferson St

The cherubs-and-naked-ladies fresco on the ceiling. The barstool on which beloved SF columnist Herb Caen spent many a night enjoying nightcaps with his wife Ann and Former Mayor Willie Brown. The history and iconic features of the famed Gold Dust Lounge were perhaps never more appreciated than when word surfaced in December of 2011 that James and Tasios Bovis, the brothers who have been the Gold Dust Lounge's proprietors since 1966, had lost their lease on their Union Square location so that the landlord could make room for an Express store. But wait! There's a happy ending for all involved! The Gold Dust has found a new home in a Fisherman's Wharf space three times as large as the old one — and all of the original trims and fittings have moved with it (though, thankfully, not the original wallpaper or carpet)! Celebrate the bar's rebirth in its sparkly new digs with the Bovises, fishermen, longtime patrons, tourists, and newcomers. This party is made for drinkin'.

Gold Dust Lounge says…

On Saturday, the bar will host its special fisherman's grand opening party. To get in nice with the neighbors, the Gold Dust Lounge has invited other businesses along the wharf to partake in some adult beverages. "It wasn't hard to find fisherman who like to drink," Houskeeper told us. Drink With a Fisherman Party Hosted by Fisherman Frank. Wharf neighbors meet long time Gold Dust patrons. The doors will open again to the general  public at 4 p.m. with the usual band beers.
