Tourettes Without Regrets feat. Butterscotch Clinton

Thursday Jan 3, 2013 (8:30pm)

Oakland Metro Operahouse

630 3rd St

Tourettes Without Regrets advertises itself as the "fight club of underground art." On any given monthly Tourettes night, there might be onstage bondage, things being set on fire, a wet t-shirt contest, or competitive bouts of dirty haiku that would make the Japanese masters' ears bleed. Curated and hosted by outrageous slam poet Jamie DeWolf (who happens to be the great-grandson of the Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard), Tourettes cultivates a take-no-prisoners approach to spoken word and performance. The first show of the new year features Davis native Butterscotch Clinton, the pianist/songstress/beatboxer who came into the spotlight as a finalist on "America's Got Talent." The lineup also includes the visual spectacle of performance collective Cirquedelic, burlesque, comedy, and more, with all of the acts walking the razor-thin line between profane obnoxiousness and fine satire — just your usual mayhem, no regrets to be had.
