Beth Lisick is a poetry slam champion who is a Firecracker Award winner (a book award that no longer exists) and who once opened for Neil Young (a distinction which she calls "funny and terrible"). She started the Porchlight SF storytelling series ten years ago with Arline Klatte, her coworker and cubicle buddy at SFGate. Porchlight has since become one helluva story time, with each show packed to bursting with audience members and onstage talent. The storytelling lineup is usually made up of invited guests, but on the last Monday of each month, Porchlight becomes an Open Door show — which means that YOU are potentially the onstage talent. Sign up on the list and spin your yarn (five-minute time limit, no notes or memorization allowed) for a chance to win a $50 cash prize.

Porchlight SF says…

Porchlight Open Door is a small stage open mic event launched by Porchlight in September 2009. Storytellers add their names to a sign-up sheet, receive a free drink, and then have five minutes to spiel on the monthly theme. The evening's top storyteller, as chosen by a random audience member, receives $50 in cold, hard United States greenbacks.
