Sate your Bay Arean bottomless hunger for whimsy, insight, and righteous indignation with the 11th annual SF DocFest: twelve days of feature-length documentaries from around the world and more than a few from our own backyard. Fans of the now sadly defunct Jejune Institute will be pleased to hear that The Institute, a 2012 documentary about the Alternative Reality Game and its implications, is showing — and that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the 50-plus films that will be screening at the fest. Also not to miss is the the world premiere of Cruel and Unusual, a look at the impact of California's Three Strikes law by San Francisco filmmaker Sam Banning; and the opening night screening of Working Class, a gripping conversation on film with artists Mike Giant and Mike Maxwell.

Cooper Berkmoyer, Flavorpill

The opening night screening of Working Class takes place at the Brava Theater instead of at the Roxie.

SF IndieFest says…

Highlights of the 11th edition include a multi-media film, art, design and music opening gala in a swank art gallery venue; world and North American premieres featuring the world's complex spectrum of social-political issues and a rare insight into contemporary Italian life through a trio of documentary premieres directly from the romantic land sandwiched between the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.
