Cohen as Doo-Wop? The masterful Leonard Cohen, legendary folk icon and Canadian poet, is further immortalized by San Francisco's own Conspiracy of Beards, a 20-man choir that transforms Cohen gems into complex choral symphonies, and then some. Expect a treasure trove of catalog essentials ("Suzanne," "Sisters of Mercy") and some of the prolific singer/songwriter's lesser-known jewels, polished to an almost-unrecognizable sheen of jazz-influenced gospel, barbershop, and yes, even Doo-Wop. Conspiracy of Beards is featured tonight as the live music performance portion of (((folkYEAH!))) and CinemaSF's City Scenes series, which invites local musicians to curate a night of music accompanied by a screening of a favorite San Francisco-based movie. Along with the presence of at least 20 beards, you can look forward to Robert Altman's McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), starring a young Warren Beatty. Music and a movie? Now, all you need to complete the night is a dinner reservation.

Conspiracy of Beards says…

What a cool event series this is! Live music followed by a movie. We are excited to kick off the night with a set of  Leonard Cohen classics, and then we'll sit back, sip on our flasks, and enjoy the movie.
