Union Square Tree Lighting

Friday Nov 23, 2012 (6pm)

Union Square

Geary St and Powell St

Attaching small candles to ornament a Christmas tree dates back to the mid-17th century, and found its way to the U.S. by way of Germany and then the U.K., where such ornaments are known as fairy lights. Celebrating its 23rd year of a Christmas tree lighting in Union Square, Macy's boasts yet another gorgeous tree and hosts a musical performance by Chris Mann, the Glide Ensemble, and more. Attendees are encouraged to support local children's hospitals by stopping by the Aflac tent and purchasing a collectible plush duck. And if that weren't enough, Santa himself is leading the tree lighting countdown. If you want a great seat, you'll need to come out early.
