This holiday season, the Film Society of Lincoln Center is rewarding all the good little cinephiles out there with a series celebrating the 70MM format. All the rage back in the 1950s and 1960s, the format was Hollywood's way to thumb its nose at the new technology in town: television. Musicals, westerns, and epics were shot in 70MM and audiences flocked to single-screen theaters to enjoy the super-sized pictures and their booming sound. And while those days might be lost, they have not been forgotten, and for 12 days you have a chance to understand what cinema was like back in 70MM's heyday. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963), My Fair Lady (1964), The Sound of Music (1965) and West Side Story (1961) are just some of the films you can catch. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see these films as they were originally intended.
