One of our favorite films of 2012, Michael Haneke's Amour takes a long, uncompromising look at the realities of aging. Emmanuelle Riva and legendary actor Jean-Louis Trintignant star as Anne and Georges, an elderly couple who have retired from teaching music and are empty nesting in Paris. Living a seemingly tranquil existence, the lovers' final symphony is retuned when Anne suffers a stroke and Georges is drafted as her caretaker. Haneke, the Austrian filmmaker known for his disturbing films including White Ribbon and Funny Games, delivers a wrenching and understated masterpiece that is said to be inspired by his own family. Winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes, this brutally honest French-language film, which also features Isabelle Huppert, is certain to strike some nerves and tear at your heart.
