Even die-hard Chekhov boycotters will happily snicker through Christopher Durang's latest, a comic antidote to angst-ridden, slow moving Russian drama. Chronicling the squabbles of a trio of siblings, led by David Hyde Pierce (Vanya) and Sigourney Weaver (Masha), Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike samples freely from the classics (The Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard, Uncle Vanya, and The Seagull) in an absurdist send up of Chekhovian tragedy. Favorite line: "If everyone took antidepressants, Chekhov would have had nothing to write about." Extra levity comes via a prophetic cleaning woman, appropriately named Cassandra (Shalita Grant), who spouts banal, but utterly accurate, predictions.
