The rare jukebox musical with depth, Forever Dusty follows the career of Irish soul legend Dusty Springfield over four decades. Casual listeners will be surprised to discover how bold and revolutionary Springfield was, from publicly coming out as gay to the press in the '70s to being deported from Apartheid-era South Africa for insisting on playing to mixed-race crowds. As Dusty, Kirsten Holly Smith, who also co-wrote the book, thrillingly channels the passion of "Son of a Preacher Man" and the pain of "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself." As Claire, Springfield's long-time African-American jazz journalist lover, Christina Sajous adds political fervor and tenderness to a bittersweet love story.
