The Rolling Stones Charlie is My Darling - Ireland 1965 is a masterfully restored time capsule of the English band three years into their illustrious rock 'n roll career as the anti-Beatles. Sort of achieving mythical status, the film was shot via a hand-held camera during a brief tour of Ireland on the heels of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction hitting #1 on the charts. Showing young, cocky and somewhat overwhelmed bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts in concert, hanging out in hotel rooms, and navigating crowds of adorning fans, the original footage was lensed by Peter Whitehead and then painstakingly resuscitated by Mick Gochanour, who also worked on The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus. Music fans, please do yourself a favor and make it to the theater to see this brilliant work. And if that becomes a challenge, no worries, because it's also available on DVD.
