America is obese. And in Samuel D Hunter's powerful play, The Whale, we watch a morbidly obese American in his last week of life. Possibly all the worst parts of our culture show up on stage — unbelievably large sodas, teenage girls with hate blogs, Maury Povich, proselytizing Mormons... This is not a fun evening of theatre, but it is heartsinking, provocative, and perhaps more true than we New Yorkers would like to admit.
