“Le Ka is a new Downtown restaurant with an impressive pedigree. French-born Chef Remi Lauvand, who has worked in the kitchens of such globally acclaimed institutions as La Grenouille, Montrachet, and Le Cirque, was Executive Chef at Santa's Barbara’s luxurious Bacara Resort, and has consulted at Rivera, is in charge of the adventurous cuisine, while the top-notch cocktail program is headed up by Andrew Parish, known for his innovative mixing at BLT and his company Beveredge. Among the best dishes are fried oyster sliders with spicy remoulade, a lobster club sandwich, smoky wild boar albondigas with melted manchego, roasted black cod with oxtail ragout and potato croquettes, and escargots with potato gnocchi and pain grille. Charcuterie includes rabbit terrine, chicken "faux" gras, and such excellent cheeses as Epoisses (from Burgundy), Sofia from Indiana's Capriole Farms, and double-cream Cremont from Vermont. Parish’s exemplary hand-crafted cocktail list features both takes on classic cocktails and Le Ka innovations. The Darkened Path, his swoon-worthy variation on the classic Dark and Stormy, is comprised of Goslings Rum, bitters, fresh lime, honey syrup, and freshly juiced ginger, which Parish (and this writer) prefer to ginger beer as it provides both effervescence and smoothness. Parish's Vieux Carré, a New Orleans classic from the 1930s, is a perfect winter cocktail. Bulleit rye, cognac, Antica, and Benedictine give it depth. The Mexican Bonfire, made with El Jimador, fresh lime, and smoked agave nectar in a cayenne-rimmed glass, is also noteworthy, as are the innovative after-dinner drinks: hot banana buttered rum, and L'Orange, made with Armagnac, orange bitters, orange zest, and nutmeg. Enjoy Le Ka's destination-worthy food and drinks in the glamorous, high-ceilinged interior or the spacious patio with glass-enclosed fireplaces.”
Nestled within the heart of the Financial District, Le Ka offers something for everyone in an unparalleled cosmopolitan experience. Focusing on artisanal and locally sourced ingredients, Le Ka complements its spectacular environs with approachable yet elegant fare from acclaimed French chef Rémi Lauvand and an expansive wine list.
