Norton Simon Museum of Art says…

The Norton Simon Museum presents Significant Objects: The Spell of Still Life, an exhibition that examines the diversity and splendor of this genre that has attracted artists since antiquity. Drawing from the Norton Simon collections, as well as a few select loans, the exhibition features more than 70 artworks, including painting, sculpture, collage, assemblage, prints and photographs, from the 17ththrough 21st centuries. The works are organized into four themes—Depiction and Desire, Virtuosity, Decoding the Still Life and Still Life off the Table—that encourage visitors to think about the genre’s significance beyond period style or national school to one rich with associations.
