“Caulfield’s Bar and Dining Room is the first Los Angeles restaurant for its new chef Stephen Kalt, known for his tenure at La Cirque in NYC, followed by executive chefdom at Corsa Cucina at The Wynn Las Vegas. Just redesigned, Caulfield’s is housed in a hotel, the coolly modern Thompson Beverly Hills. The market-driven menus Kalt just introduced brim with sophisticated innovation. Appetizer choices include big eye tuna tartare with chiles, lemon, basil, and wakame; American Wagyu beef hash with grilled chicory and fried egg; tempura cauliflower with tomatillo salsa; and house-smoked Steelhead trout in a jar with crème fraîche, egg, and pickled fennel. The artisanal cheese plate is superb, with choices including sublime Cremant cheese from Vermont, Spanish Manchego, and Saint-Nectaire from the Auvergne region of France. These are served with honeycomb, quince paste, mustard fruit, and Calliope tomato jam. Working well as a starter or main course, the grilled pizettes come in several varieties, including one topped with white truffle oil, robiolina, and mushroom duxelle. Entrees include an excellent dish featuring duck served two ways: the roasted duck breast comes with duck confit, Gaviota strawberries, padron peppers, potato pearls, and cipoline onions. Also try the Diver scallops with Manila clams, chorizo, ravioli, and vermouth butter. The fantastic dessert menu includes sticky toffee pudding made with fig bread, Greek yogurt ice cream, finger limes, and walnuts, while the top choice on the classically inspired cocktail list might be the Kentucky Kiwi, a delicious concoction of Pure Kentucky XO Whiskey, kiwi shrub, and Bitter Truth Boston bitters. It’s a pleasure to take in these gustatory and libationary pleasures within the chic, classical décor its owners call “art deco meets industrial.””

Caulfield's Bar and Dining Room boasts an all-new menu from seasoned chef Stephen Kalt and a redesigned interior. This is Kalt’s first foray into the Los Angeles dining scene, and together with owners Mulstay and Marino (of local hot spots Bar Chloe, Magnolia, and The Bar), he has reinvented this Beverly Hills dining destination. Celebrated for his numerous projects in Las Vegas, New York City, and Atlantic City, Kalt recently relocated to Los Angeles to command the kitchen full time at Caulfield’s Bar and Dining Room.
