Norton Simon Museum of Art says…

In his Natural History, the Roman author Pliny praised ancient Greek painters for their keen ability to represent the illusion of reality. Although the paintings he discussed are completely lost, surviving Roman wall paintings and mosaics preserve their visual memory. Dr. Hart speaks to the development of still life as an enduring artistic genre, from its origins in classical Greece through the heyday of Roman still life in the first century C.E.

Presented in the Museum's theater.
