“Anna Karenina, the latest adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's novel, reunites Keira Knightley with Atonement director Joe Wright. Several years after Anna, a 19th century Russian society woman, enters an arranged marriage with a man 20 years her senior, she falls passionately in love with another man. Facing constant scrutiny and judgment from the society around her, Anna leaves her husband for the dashing Count Vronsky, becoming a social pariah (Vronsky, being a man, escapes that fate). This dazzling film, featuring a screenplay by Tom Stoppard, is both heartbreaking and a sumptuous feast for the eyes, with exquisite production design by Sarah Greenwood, along with breathtaking costumes by two-time Academy-Award nominee Jacqueline Durran, whose furs, veils, silk gowns, and perfect tailoring will without a doubt earn her another Oscar nomination, if not the Oscar itself.”
Anna Karenina is acclaimed director Joe Wright's bold, theatrical new vision of the epic story of love, stirringly adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s great novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love).
