Paul Weller is a rock legend. He founded the mod/punk trio The Jam, a band so huge in the UK, they scored 18 top 40 singles in just five years, then went on to form the more soul and jazz-inflected band The Style Council. A solo artist since the 90s, the music & style icon (and current John Varvatos model) has a new album, Sonik Kicks. A #1 record in the UK, it’s also been very well received here in the US, and might be the best record this uniquely British artist has made in decades. See the man known as The Modfather at the Greek Theater before he flies to Tokyo for three shows. Tickets go on sale on August 11.

Greek Theatre says…

There are very few artists who’ve enjoyed the kind of success and influence over four decades that Paul Weller has. Even to this day he has been on a never-ending creative peak and retains a constant critical high, continuing to push boundaries from one day to the next. Paul Weller has had six era-defining albums with The Jam, five with The Style Council and eleven as a solo artist. That’s a lot of classic albums to milk on the nostalgia circuit, but, Paul Weller is not like other artists. He doesn’t want to look back: that’s not his way. He is only concerned with the here and now. “Of course I’m proud of what I’ve done,” says Paul, “but I’m interested in what’s next. I want to be relevant now, in 2012. I’ve done my bit for the past. I’ve only ever been about what’s next, really, and I’ll be that way until I keel over.” The UK’s number 1 selling album, Sonik Kicks, is the follow-up to 2010’s Mercury Music Prize-nominated Wake Up The Nation.
