Skirball Cultural Center (Venue Partner)

2701 N Sepulveda Blvd.

Skirball Cultural Center says…

Exploring the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition, Free to be U.S.: A First Amendment Experience encourages visitors to consider how the First Amendment has (or has not) expanded liberty and justice for everyone in the United States. Using computer touchscreens, take on the role of a Supreme Court justice and analyze five landmark First Amendment cases; apply First Amendment guarantees to current topics such as gay marriage and gun control; and decide if there are limits to First Amendment rights in cases of national security, obscenity, and hate speech.

Get up on our soapbox!—Exercise your right to speak out by crafting a five-word “soap box” speech about freedom. Draft it at home or make it up on the spot, then deliver it in the gallery atop an antique soap box.
