Green is the kind of fiction feature that restores our faith independent cinema. A deftly crafted low-budget sexual thriller, the film is about a young urbanite couple, Genevieve and Sebastian, who move to the rural south so he can work on a sustainable farming project. There they encounter Robin, a friendly local girl, who stirs the jealousy juices and awakens Genevieve's paranoid demons. Filmmaker Sophia Takal, who walked off with the Chicken & Egg Emergent Narrative Woman Director Award at last year's SXSW, also co-stars as Robin, while her real-life boyfriend plays opposite as Sebastian. Beautifully shot, this nuanced and evocative debut has us hoping that there's more where that came from.
